Mountain Line to Lower Flag in Honor of Employee
Mountain Line Transit authority is saddened by the passing of Wayne Pifer, General Manager. In memory of Wayne, the Transit Authority has lowered its Mountain Line Flag.
In the fall of 2017 Wayne was diagnosed with ALS, he immediately began to train staff to ensure a smooth transition. In August of 2018, just prior to relocating our operations to Westover, he was unable to continue traveling to the office. Remotely he was still able to provide guidance and did so for as long as he could. On Friday November 8, 2019 Wayne passed away due to the complications related to ALS.
Wayne was with Mountain Line for nearly 19 years and integral in sustaining the inner workings of Mountain Line through the growth and expansion of the system over the years. In 2018 Wayne received the West Virginia Public Transit Employee of the Year, a recognition earned for his many accomplishments. With his long history at Mountain Line and in the Transit industry there are many people who will miss him deeply.
Services for Wayne will be held at the McCulla Funeral Home, 770 Fairmont Road, Morgantown from 2-4 & 6-8 pm Tuesday and on Wednesday from 10:00 am until the 11:00 am funeral service. Burial will follow at Beverly Hills Cemetery.
The Mountain Line Transit November Board Meeting will be held after the burial on Wednesday and may delay the start of the noon meeting.
