Mountain Valley Apartments Ends Transit Contract
Morgantown, WV-
Officials of the Mountain Valley Apartment Complex, located just off VanVoorhis Road, informed Mountain Line Transit Authority yesterday that they will not continue their $109,000 dollar contract for services beyond June 30, 2012. Service is planned to continue to the housing complex until the Authority can consider service reduction alternatives at their July 11, 2012 regular Board Meeting, at which time it is likely all public transit service to the complex will end.
Service reduction alternatives will consider general service to the VanVoorhis road area as well as the cost of the service and ridership demand. The Mountain Valley leg of the Gold Line provided over 87,000 rides in its last 11 ½ months of service, 62,000 of which were WVU students, faculty or staff. Gold MV service operates from 6:30 am to 9:45 pm, Monday through Friday. The Authority will consider the impact this elimination of service will have on the already congested VanVoorhis and West Run Roads, but without an alternative source of funds, the Authority’s long-term options are limited.
As alternatives are developed, the Authority will provide additional information to the public and updates will be available on the Authority web site at www.busride.org. Due to the short time-frame available prior to service reductions, the only Public Hearing on this matter will take place at the July 11, 2012 Board Meeting which will be held at 6:00 pm at the Westover Maintenance and Administrative facility.
