granville celebrates launch of first bus stop

Granville, WV- A ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the launch of a new bus stop will take place at 10:30 a.m. at Monday, July 30, 2007. The bus stop is located in front of the Granville Volunteer Fire Department and includes a bench under a covered shelter. Other innovative features include a mounted schedule that is backlit for increased readability, a blinking beacon-style light to signal bus drivers in low light, and a solar powered light to illuminate the waiting passengers as needed.

The Granville location was selected for the first bus stop due to the city’s initiative to restore community areas. The new bus stop shelter is the first of its kind for Mountain Line Transit; six similar shelters will be placed throughout Monongalia County. A total of twelve standalone solar-powered bus stop lights with backlit mounted schedules will also be installed in the next few months.

Mountain Line will continue its policy of picking up riders anywhere along designated routes. Riders are encouraged to stand in a safe location alongside the road as they wave to the on-coming driver, but using marked stops when present is recommended.

For information on Mountain Line bus routes and schedules, riders can call 291-RIDE (291-7433) during normal hours of operation or visit WWW.BUSRIDE.ORG.
