Mountain Line Ridership Travels to a new Peak In 2008
Morgantown, WV- The Mountain Line Transit Authority is pleased to announce a record high ridership for calendar year 2008. For the first time in its 11-year existence, the Authority eclipsed the 1 million passenger ridership mark. A 25.6% ridership increase over 2007’s 796,813 passenger boardings marked the 8th year in a row the Authority has experienced double-digit ridership growth, and five of those years ridership increased 20% or more. Ridership in 2000 was 181,652 before the Authority restructured its routes and at that time, Mountain Line was considered a rural transit system. Since then, the Authority has established a service Agreement with West Virginia University and has developed new service routes through subsidy agreements with two major housing complexes in the community.
Mountain Line’s longest standing partners, the City of Morgantown and the Monongalia County Commission, operated separate transit systems in 1996. In an effort to consolidate efficiencies of operation, reduce redundancy and increase overall service, the City and County combined their two bus lines with humble beginnings offering just over 2,500 hours of revenue service to the community. In 2008, Mountain Line operated more than 5,800 hours of service, including its Intercity Service, the Grey Line, connecting Clarksburg, Fairmont and Morgantown, WV with Waynesburg and Pittsburgh, PA.
The Authority’s Board of Directors and employees thank our passengers for their support and patronage. For more information, visit WWW.BUSRIDE.ORG or call (304) 291-RIDE.
