Mountain Line Trolley Service Free Beginning April 1

March 22, 2002: The Mountain Line Transit Authority is pleased to announce that its mid-day Trolley bus service will be free beginning on Monday, April 1. The Trolley begins its route at the WVU MountainLair beginning at 10:30 a.m. Monday through Friday. The Trolley travels Maiden Lane, High Street, and Chestnut Street before going to Riverfront Park, the Wharf District and One Waterfront Place. After completing this 15 minute trip, the Trolley then returns to the MountainLair by way of Fayette Street, High Street, Spruce Street and East Prospect Street. The Trolley runs in this fashion every thirty minutes with the last trip departing the MountainLair at 2:00 p.m.

Mountain Line Names Jim Huffman as 2001 Driver of the Year

March 20, 2002: The Mountain Line Transit Authority is extremely pleased to announce its 2001 Driver of the Year, Mr. James Blaine Huffman III. Mr. Huffman's average monthly performance evaluations were the highest among all of the Authority's Drivers in calendar year 2001. Performance evaluations review monthly performance in areas including demonstrated driving skills, safety, public relations, assistance to fellow drivers and maintaining route schedules. Altogether, drivers are evaluated in eight major categories that include more than twenty specific service related areas.

Mr. Huffman has worked for the Authority since its creation in July 1996 and served as a Monongalia County Bus Driver before working for the Authority. As the Authority's 2001 Driver of the Year, Mr. Huffman will be nominated for the WV Division of Public Transit's statewide Driver of the Year. Mr. Huffman was also recognized as the Authority's August 2001 Driver of the Month.

The Authority established its Monthly Driver Evaluation System in September of 2000 to improve overall service and performance and to recognize it employees for their outstanding service to the residents and visitors of Monongalia County. Other Drivers recognized by the Authority for their performance in 2001 included Bernie Cordray, Terry Lewis, John Hemerick and Joe Shultz. Tyrone Road Bus Schedule to Change Monday

March 15, 2002: The Mountain Line Transit Authority is announcing a change in the Tyrone Road Bus Route effective Monday, March 18. The Tyrone Road Route will now provide eight trips per day to the Tyrone area and will include trips to the Cheat Lake area. Additional features of the new route include regular trips to and from Brookhaven and Glenmark Center. The new schedule provides for buses departing from the Garret Street Depot every ninety minutes beginning at 6:30 a.m. Buses will also serve the County Court House on their return to downtown Morgantown. The last run each day will leave the Depot at 5:10 p.m., Monday through Saturday.

March 14, 2002: The Mountain Line Transit Authority is pleased to announce its February Driver of the Month, Mr. Kevin Mackie. Mr. Mackie was the top performer of the 25 drivers evaluated for daily work performance in February. Performance evaluations included areas such as demonstrated driving skills, safety, public relations, assistance to fellow drivers and maintaining route schedules just to name a few. Other Drivers noted for outstanding performance were Jim Huffman, Bernie Cordray, John Hemerick, Joe Shultz, Mike Walls, and Clinton Burns.

February 14, 2002: The Mountain Line Transit Authority is pleased to announce its January Drivers of the Month, Mr. John Hemerick and Mr. Joe Shultz. Mr. Hemerick and Mr. Shultz were the top performers of the 24 drivers evaluated for daily work performance in January. Performance evaluations included areas such as demonstrated driving skills, safety, public relations, assistance to fellow drivers and maintaining route schedules just to name a few. Other Drivers noted for outstanding performance were Jim Huffman, Don Cummings, Terry Lewis, Bernie Cordray, Clinton Burns and Kevin Mackey.


Tyrone Road Route to Change

February 7, 2002: The Mountain Line Transit Authority is announcing a public hearing to offer a proposed route change of the Tyrone Route serving Richwood Avenue, Sabraton, Brookhaven, Dellslow, Tyrone Road and adding service to the Cheat Lake area. The proposed Tyrone Route change would add service to Cheat Lake eventually replacing the current Blue Line service to that area. The Public Hearing will be held on Monday, February 11, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. in the Monongalia County Senior Center on High Street. Public comment on the proposed service change is needed to evaluate the initial proposal and make any necessary modifications before the service is changed. Current riders and persons interested in public transportation are encouraged to attend the meeting.

Mountain Line Goes Gold

January 16, 2002: The Mountain Line Transit Authority is pleased to announce a new, reduced rate service for seniors. Under this new "Gold Card" initiative to make transportation more affordable for senior citizens, Mountain Line is offering a 33% rate reduction for regular, fare paying customers aged 62 and older. To become a Gold Card member, persons age 62 or older need only complete a simple application and provide proof of age and the Authority will issue them a Mountain Line Gold Card. When Gold Card Members board the bus and show their Gold Card to the Driver, any normal 75-cent fare will cost them only 50 cents.

Applications are available from all Drivers, both Senior Centers and on the Internet at WWW.BUSRIDE.ORG. Applications must be submitted in person at the Authority's Depot Office at 185 Garrett Street along with a photo ID. January 10, 2002: The Mountain Line Transit Authority is pleased to announce its December Driver of the Month, Mr. Bernie Cordray.

Mr. Cordray was the top performer of the 25 drivers evaluated for daily work performance in December. Mr. Cordray was also the Authority's November 2000 Driver of the Month. Performance evaluations included areas such as demonstrated driving skills, safety, public relations, assistance to fellow drivers and maintaining route schedules just to name a few. Other Drivers noted for outstanding performance were Jim Huffman, Mary Rogers, Terry Lewis, John Hemerick, Clinton Burns and Ted Lipscomb.
